Description
- Macery is highly effective in treating a wide variety of clinical infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It belongs to the macrolides group of antibiotics and exerts a bacteriostatic or bactericidal action by interfering with ribosomal protein synthesis within bacterial cells. It is particularly effective against various upper respiratory tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, ear infections, eye infections, skin and soft tissue infections, gastrointestinal tract infections, and other infections.

Mode of Action
- Bacteriostatic or bactericidal action by interfering with ribosomal protein synthesis
- Specific interference with ribosomal protein synthesis within the bacterial cell
- Inhibition of microsomal protein synthesis in susceptible organisms by inhibiting the translocation process
Pharmacology
- Inhibition of microsomal protein synthesis in susceptible organisms by inhibiting the translocation process
- Active against many Gram-positive bacteria, some Gram-negative bacteria, mycoplasmas, and chlamydia
- Widely distributed throughout body tissue and fluids with some retention in the liver and spleen
- Enters the cerebrospinal fluid when the meninges are inflamed, crosses the placenta, and is excreted in the milk
Dosage & Administration
- For adults and children over 8 years: 250-500 mg every six hours for mild to moderate infections, may be increased up to 4 gm or more daily in severe cases
- No special dosage recommendation for elderly
- Different dosages for children aged 2 to 8 years and infants or children up to 2 years
Interaction
- May increase serum theophylline levels and potential theophylline toxicity in patients receiving high dosages of theophylline
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Erythromycin
Side Effects
- Rare allergic reactions, mild anaphylaxis, abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of teratogenicity or toxicity in human studies, caution advised for pregnant patients and lactating mothers due to placental barrier crossing and excretion in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Careful administration in patients with impaired hepatic function
Overdose Effects
- Discontinue Macery in case of overdose, prompt elimination of unabsorbed drug, not removed by peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis

Reconstitution
- Direction for reconstitution of suspension
- Shake well before use, store in a cool and dry place, discard unused portion after 7 days
