Description
Macery is an antibiotic belonging to the macrolides group. It is used for the treatment of a wide variety of clinical infections caused by susceptible organisms. Its bacteriostatic or bactericidal action is based on specific interference with ribosomal protein synthesis within the bacterial cell.

Mode of Action
Erythromycin inhibits microsomal protein synthesis in susceptible organisms by inhibiting the translocation process. It is active against many Gram-positive bacteria, some Gram-negative bacteria, mycoplasmas, and chlamydia.
Dosage & Administration
- Adult and Children over 8 years: 250-500 mg every six hours for mild to moderate infections
- Elderly: No special dosage recommendation
- Children aged 2 to 8 years: 250 mg every six hours or 30-50 mg/kg body weight per day divided into four equal dosages
- Infants and Children up to 2 years: 500 mg in divided doses or 30-50 mg/kg body weight in divided doses
Interaction
Macery may increase serum theophylline levels and potential theophylline toxicity in patients receiving high dosages of theophylline, requiring a reduction in the theophylline dose.
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to Erythromycin.

- Mild abdominal discomfort after oral administration
- Occasional nausea and vomiting
Pregnancy & Lactation
Caution should be exercised when prescribing Macery to pregnant patients and lactating mothers, as it crosses the placental barrier and is excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings
Macery should be given with care in patients with impaired hepatic function, as it is excreted principally in the bile.
Overdose Effects
In case of overdosage, Macery should be discontinued. Prompt elimination of unabsorbed drug and appropriate measures should be instituted. It is not removed by peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis.

Reconstitution
Macery is available as a suspension. Directions for reconstitution of the suspension include adding boiled and cooled water to the dry powder of the bottle, shaking well, and storing the reconstituted suspension in a cool and dry place, preferably in the refrigerator.
Storage Conditions
Keep Macery below 25°C, away from light and moisture, and out of the reach of children.
