Description
- Racard is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure, prevention of major cardiovascular events, and reduction of the risk of stroke and myocardial infarction.
- It is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor with antihypertensive, heart failure management, and cardiovascular risk reduction properties.
- Dosage should be adjusted according to patient tolerance and response, with specific recommendations for hypertension, congestive heart failure after myocardial infarction, and renal impairment.
- The tablets must not be chewed or crushed and can be taken before, during, or after meals.
- Contraindications include hypersensitivity to ramipril, a history of angioedema, concomitant use with sacubitril/valsartan therapy, and hypotensive or haemodynamically unstable states.
- Side effects may include dizziness, headache, fatigue, asthenia, symptomatic hypotension, cough, nausea, vomiting, rash, and hyperkalemia.
- Racard must not be taken during pregnancy and is not recommended during breastfeeding.
- Precautions should be taken in patients with impaired renal function, hyperkalemia, hypotension, and impaired hepatic function. It should be used with caution in special populations such as the elderly, patients with hepatic or renal impairment, and those pretreated with a diuretic.
- In case of overdose, excessive peripheral vasodilatation, bradycardia, electrolyte disturbances, and renal failure may occur. Management includes primary detoxification, hypotension administration, and volume and salt substitution.
