Description
- Tenomin is a beta-blocker indicated for the management of hypertension, angina pectoris, and acute myocardial infarction. It is known for its β1 selective (cardioselective) β-adrenergic receptor antagonist with no membranestability activity and no partial agonist activity.
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 50 mg for hypertension, 50-100 mg for angina pectoris, and 5 mg IV injection for acute myocardial infarction.
Indications
- Management of hypertension.
- Long-term management of patients with angina pectoris.
- Management of hemodynamically stable patients with definite or suspected acute myocardial infarction.
Mode of Action
- Competitively blocks β1 (cardiac) receptors with no effect on β2-receptors.
Interactions
- Catecholamine-depleting drugs, Calcium channel blockers, Disopyramide, Amiodarone, Clonidine, Prostaglandin synthase inhibiting drugs, Digitalis glycosides.
Contraindications
- Sinus bradycardia
- Heart block greater than first degree
- Cardiogenic shock
- Overt cardiac failure
- Hypersensitivity to atenolol or any of the drug product's components.
