Indications
- Adjunct to diet and exercises
- Improves glycaemic control
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Pharmacology
- Inhibits DPP-4 enzyme
- Increases insulin secretion
- Decreases glucagon secretion
- Lowers basal and postprandial plasma glucose
Dosage & Administration
- Initiation based on current Metformin dose
- Twice daily dosing
- May be taken with or after food to reduce gastrointestinal symptoms
Interaction
- No clinically relevant pharmacokinetic interaction observed
- Low potential for drug interactions
- Interaction with other oral antidiabetics studied
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Vildagliptin
- Hypersensitivity to Metformin Hydrochloride
- Renal disease or dysfunction
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Septicaemia

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Not recommended during pregnancy
- No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women

- Lactic acidosis risk
- Monitoring of serum creatinine and liver function tests
- Special caution in elderly patients
- Discontinue in case of jaundice or liver dysfunction
