  • M-Dazole is indicated in the treatment of various diseases such as prevention of post-operative infections, septicaemia, bacteraemia, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, amoebiasis, giardiasis, gingivitis, anaerobic leg ulcers, pressure sores, acute dental infections, antibiotic-associated pseudomembranus colitis, etc.
  • Metronidazole is a member of the imidazole class of antibacterial drug and is classified therapeutically as an antiprotozoal agent. The 5-nitro group of Metronidazole is reduced by anaerobes metabolically. Studies have demonstrated that the reduced form of this drug interacts with DNA and gives bactericidal action of Metronidazole.
  • The recommended dosage and administration vary for different diseases and age groups, including trichomoniasis, intestinal amoebiasis, extra-intestinal & asymptomatic amoebiasis, giardiasis, acute ulcerative gingivitis, bacterial vaginosis, leg ulcers and pressure sores, anaerobic infections, surgical prophylaxis, vaginal gel, suppository, and IV infusion.
  • Interaction with other drugs includes Disulfiram, Alcohol, Oral anticoagulant therapy, Lithium, Cyclosporin, Phenytoin or phenobarbital, 5-Fluorouracil, and Busulfan.
  • Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Metronidazole or other Nitroimidazole derivatives.
