Description
- Quinivir is indicated in acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and malaria
- Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate acts as an immunosuppressant by inhibiting production of rheumatoid and acute phase reactants
- Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate tablets are for oral administration and are taken with food to avoid stomach upset
- Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate dosage for rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, and malaria varies
- Quinivir is generally well tolerated, but may cause side effects like nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, loss of appetite, diarrhea, tiredness, weakness, headache, and visual problems
- Quinivir should be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation
- Children are especially sensitive to the 4-aminoquinoline compounds in Quinivir

Technical Specifications
- Dosage for acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis: 400 to 600 mg daily
- Dosage for SLE: 400 mg once or twice daily for several weeks or months, maintenance dose is 200 to 400 mg daily
- Dosage for malaria in adults: initial dose of 800 mg, followed by 400 mg in 6-8 hours, and 400 mg on each of two consecutive days
- Dosage for malaria in children: total dose representing 25 mg/kg administered in 3 days
- Pregnancy: should be used only if clearly needed
