Indications
- Acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis
- Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
- Malaria
Pharmacology
- Immunosuppressant
- Inhibits production of rheumatoid and acute phase reactants
- Accumulates in white blood cells
- Stabilizes lysosomal membranes
- Inhibits activity of enzymes including collagenase
- Disrupts cell walls of infected red blood cells
- Kills developing parasites
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration with food
- 400 to 600 mg daily for acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis
- 400 mg once or twice daily for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
- Initial dose of 800 mg followed by 400 mg in 6-8 hours for Malaria in adults
- Pregnancy Category: Should be used only if clearly needed
- Opthalmologic examination required every 12 months
