Description
- Lincosamide antibiotic
- Semisynthetic antibiotic derived from lincomycin
- Effective against aerobic gram-positive cocci such as Staphylococcus and Streptococci
- Effective against anaerobic gram-negative bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic gram-positive non-spore forming bacilli
- Effective against anaerobic and microaerophilic gram-positive cocci
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for serious infections: 150 mg-300 mg every six hours
- Dosage for more severe infections: 300 mg-450 mg every six hours
- Dosage for pediatric patients: 8-25 mg/kg/day divided into 3 or 4 equal doses
- Administered via oral capsules, oral powder, and IV/IM injection
- Recommended dose adjustment for different types of infections
Interaction
- Enhances action of neuromuscular blocking agents
- Antagonistic interaction with erythromycin
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients sensitive to clindamycin or any of its ingredients

Overdose Effects
- Rare overdosage with similar adverse reactions
- Haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are not effective
- No specific antidote known
