Indications

• Source of calories and essential fatty acids
• Parenteral nutrition for extended periods
• Treatment of essential fatty acid deficiency
• Preoperative and postoperative nutritional disturbances
• Nutritional disorders due to inadequate intestinal absorption
• Burns treatment
• Impaired renal function
• Cachexia treatment
• Correction of essential fatty acid imbalance

Composition

• Refined Soyabean Oil BP 10 gm
• Purified Egg Lecithin Ph. Gr. 1.2 gm
• Glycerol BP 2.25 gm

Pharmacology

• Prevents Essential Fatty Acid Deficiency
• Provides linoleic, oleic, palmitic acids
• Formulated as a concentrated source of energy
• Isotonic and may be given by central or peripheral venous route

Dosage

• Administered as a part of TPN
• Maximum daily dosage limits for adults, children, and infants
• Recommended dosage for correcting fatty acid deficiency

Administration

• Can be given by peripheral or central vein
• May be administered simultaneously with amino acid and/or glucose

Interaction

• Possible interaction with insulin and heparin

Contraindications

• Severely disordered fat metabolism
• Severe liver damage
• Acute shock
• Hypersensitivity to egg, soya, or peanut protein

• Rise in body temperature
• Shivering
• Chills
• Nausea/vomiting
• Hypersensitivity reactions
• Respiratory symptoms
• Circulatory effects
• Thrombosis
• Haemolysis
• Abdominal pain
• Neurological adverse reactions

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Caution advised during pregnancy and lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• May cause allergic reactions
• Cross allergic reaction with soya-bean and peanut
• Use with caution in certain medical conditions
• Administer with caution to neonates and premature infants
• Monitoring requirements for neonates receiving long term parenteral nutrition

Overdose Effects

• Fat overload syndrome
• Bone marrow depression
• Anaemia
• Thrombocytopenia
• Hepatosplenomegaly
• Hyperlipaemia

Storage Conditions

• Store at 15°C to 30°C
• Dry place protected from light
• Check for evidence of excessive creaming or aggregation
• Discard leftover contents of opened bags or bottles
