  • Blocks reabsorption of sodium, potassium and chloride ions

  • Favors sodium excretion
  • Reduces excess loss of potassium

Dosage & Administration

  • Furosemide 20 mg and spironolactone 50 mg
  • Furosemide 40 mg and spironolactone 50 mg
  • 1 to 4 tablets daily
  • 20 to 80 mg of Furosemide
  • 50 to 200 mg of spironolactone
  • Use in children not suitable
  • Excretion in the elderly

Interaction

  • Increased risk of hyperkalemia with ACE inhibitors
  • Increased risk of hyperkalemia with potassium salts
  • Increases levels of cardiac glycosides like digoxin
  • May result in digitalis toxicity
  • Corticosteroids may cause hypokalemia
  • Reduced or abolished effects with indomethacin
  • May increase ototoxicity of aminoglycoside antibiotics
  • Sucralfate may reduce natriuretic and anti-hypertensive effect

  • Anuria
  • Acute renal insufficiency
  • Severe impairment of renal function
  • Hyperkalaemia
  • Addison's disease
  • Hypersensitivity to Spironolactone
  • Hypersensitivity to Furosemide
  • Hypersensitivity to sulphonamides
