Indications

Description

  • Orally dissolving film designed to be applied on top of the tongue

Mode of Action

  • Selective blocking agent of the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor type

Dosage

  • Oral soluble film does not require water to aid dissolution or swallowing
  • Adults, Pediatric patients (6 months to 18 years)
  • Oral solution for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
  • Oral solution for radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
  • Oral solution for postoperative nausea and vomiting

Administration

  • Tear the pouch
  • Place the film on top of the tongue
  • Swallow after the film dissolves
  • Wash hands after taking the film

Interaction

  • Does not induce or inhibit the cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzyme system

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
  • Concomitant use of apomorphine

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus due to Ondansetron
  • Excreted in the breast milk of rats

Precautions & Warnings

  • Not a drug that stimulates gastric or intestinal peristalsis
  • Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
  • May mask a progressive ileus and/or gastric distension

Use in Special Populations

  • Dosage recommendation is the same as for the general population for patients with impaired renal function
  • Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired hepatic function
  • Little information available about dosage in pediatric patients 4 years of age or younger
