Composition
- 0.5% w/v Chlorhexidine Gluconate
- 2.5% v/v Chlorhexidine Gluconate solution BP
- 70% v/v Isopropyl Alcohol BP
Pharmacology
- Chlorhexidine salts dissociate at physiologic pH
- Bactericidal effect through binding to bacterial cell walls
- Results in bacteriostatic effect at low concentrations
- Results in cell death at high concentrations
Dosage & Administration
- Disinfect clean hands with 3ml amount, scrub until dried
- Disinfect surgical instruments with 5ml amount, immerse for 2 minutes
- Disinfect skin prior to surgery with 3ml amount, scrub until dried
- Disinfect wound/wound dressing with 3ml amount, scrub until dried
Interaction
- Incompatible with soaps and other anionic agents
- Hypochlorite bleaches may cause brown stains on fabrics
Contraindications
- Not to be used in patients with hypersensitivity to Chlorhexidine Gluconate or its composition
