Indications
- Prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma
- Acute prevention of Exercise-Induced Bronchoconstriction (EIB)
- Relief of symptoms of Allergic Rhinitis (AR): Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
Pharmacology
- Leukotriene receptor antagonist
- Inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor (CysLT1)
- Correlated with the pathophysiology of asthma & allergic rhinitis
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 10 mg tablet once daily
- Pediatric dosage: ranges from 4 mg to 10 mg depending on age
- No dosage adjustment in hepatic or renal insufficiency
- Elderly use: no dosage adjustment required
Interaction
- No clinically significant interactions with common drugs
- Potential interaction with phenobarbital
- Recommend clinical monitoring with potent enzyme inducers
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
Side Effects
- Common: diarrhea, headache, nausea, skin reactions
- Uncommon: anxiety, dizziness, muscle complaints, sleep disorders
- Rare: angioedema, hallucination, pulmonary eosinophilia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Crosses placenta in rats and rabbits
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Caution advised when given to nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Not for acute asthma attacks
- Rescue medication should be available
- Should not be abruptly substituted for corticosteroids
- Caution in aspirin-sensitive patients

- No adverse experiences in majority of cases
- Supportive measures recommended in case of overdose
