Description
Corasis-D 500 mg Tablet is a combination of calcium carbonate and vitamin D3, indicated for the treatment & prevention of Osteoporosis, Osteomalacia, Tetany, Hypoparathyroidism, and disorders of osteogenesis. It is also used as a supplement in case of inadequate intake of calcium in childhood diet, rickets, pregnancy & lactation, and for elderly patients. Other indications include pancreatitis, phosphate binder in chronic renal failure etc.

- Composition:
- Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
- Pharmacology:
- Adequate Calcium in the blood is vital for bodily functions
- Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption
- Coral source ensures better absorption
- Dosage & Administration:
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water
- Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water to drink orally
- Taking in full stomach ensures better absorption
- Interaction:
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Ion exchange resins and laxatives may reduce vitamin D absorption
- Calcium carbonate may interfere with tetracycline absorption
- Hypercalcaemia may increase cardiac glycosides toxicity
- Bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride use should be at least 3 hours apart from Corasis-D intake
- Oxalic acid and phytic acid may inhibit calcium absorption
- Contraindications:
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy
- Side Effects:
- GI irritation
- Constipation
- Hypercalcemia
- Allergic reactions
- Irregular heartbeats

- Decreased appetite
- Dry mouth
- Drowsiness
- Skin rash
- Pregnancy & Lactation:
- Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
- Overdoses of calcium and vitamin D should be avoided in pregnancy
- Vitamin D3 passes into breast milk

- Serum calcium levels and renal function monitoring
- Caution in elderly patients, patients with high tendency to calculus formation
- Caution in patients with impaired renal function
- Caution in immobilized patients with osteoporosis
- Monitoring of serum calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion
- Risk of soft tissue calcification
- Caution in patients with sarcoidosis
- Caution in prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
- Overdose Effects:
- Hypervitaminosis D
- Hypercalcaemia
