Description

  • Diafit tablets are used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients when dietary management and exercise alone do not result in adequate glycaemic control.

Indications

  • Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults and children from 10 years of age
  • Reduction of diabetic complications in overweight type 2 diabetic adult patients treated with metformin as first-line therapy after diet failure

Mode of Action

  • Lowers both basal and postprandial plasma glucose
  • Decreases hepatic glucose production
  • Decreases intestinal absorption of glucose
  • Improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization

Dosage and Administration

  • Dosage must be individualized based on effectiveness and tolerance
  • Dosage increments of 500 mg weekly or 850 mg every 2 weeks
  • Maximum daily doses for adults and children
  • Dosage adjustments for renal-impaired patients
  • Instructions for immediate and extended release tablets

Interactions

  • Potential interactions with Furosemide, Nifedipine, cationic drugs, and certain medications that produce hyperglycemia
