Description
- Diafit tablets are used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients when dietary management and exercise alone do not result in adequate glycaemic control.

Indications
- Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults and children from 10 years of age
- Reduction of diabetic complications in overweight type 2 diabetic adult patients treated with metformin as first-line therapy after diet failure
Mode of Action
- Lowers both basal and postprandial plasma glucose
- Decreases hepatic glucose production
- Decreases intestinal absorption of glucose
- Improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization
Dosage and Administration
- Dosage must be individualized based on effectiveness and tolerance
- Dosage increments of 500 mg weekly or 850 mg every 2 weeks
- Maximum daily doses for adults and children
- Dosage adjustments for renal-impaired patients
- Instructions for immediate and extended release tablets
Interactions
- Potential interactions with Furosemide, Nifedipine, cationic drugs, and certain medications that produce hyperglycemia
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
