Indications

  • Treatment of upper respiratory tract infections (URTI)
  • Treatment of urinary tract infections
  • Clinical efficacy against Streptococcus pneumonia
  • Treatment of cystitis, cystourethritis, pyelonephritis
  • High stability in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes

Pharmacology

  • Third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic
  • Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacteria
  • Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
  • High stability in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
  • About 40-50% absorption rate with or without food

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7 days
  • Continuation for up to 14 days if required
  • Recommended adult dosage of 200-400 mg daily
  • Dosage adjustment for elderly and children
  • Dosage guidelines for different age groups

Interaction

  • Potential impact on prothrombin times in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy

Contraindications
