Description

Pharmacology
- Inhibits gastric acid by blocking the hydrogen-potassium adenosine triphosphatase enzyme system (proton pump) of the gastric parietal cell
Dosage
- 40 mg once daily for adults with erosive esophagitis
- 20 mg once daily for maintenance of healing of erosive esophagitis
- 20 mg once daily for risk reduction in NSAID associated gastric ulcer for adults
- 20 mg twice daily for H. pylori eradication in adults
- 40-80 mg twice daily for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and idiopathic hypersecretion in adults
- 10-20 mg once daily for children 1-11 years with erosive esophagitis
Administration
- Tablets should be swallowed whole with liquid, not chewed or crushed
- Can be dispersed in water if needed, but not in carbonated water
Interaction
- Not likely to inhibit certain CYP enzymes
- May interfere with CYP2C19 and affect clearance of diazepam
- Inhibits gastric acid secretion, potentially interfering with drug absorption where gastric pH is important
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation

Pregnancy & Lactation
