Indications
- Short courses treatment of recalcitrant eczemas
- Neurodermatoses
- Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis) where secondary bacterial infection or fungal infection is present
- Other inflammatory conditions which do not respond satisfactorily to less active steroids
Pharmacology
Clobetasol Propionate is a very potent corticosteroid for severe inflammatory skin disorders. Neomycin Sulphate is an antibiotic for treating bacterial infections. Nystatin is an antifungal for killing fungi and yeasts.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: Apply sparingly once or twice daily to affected area
- Elderly: Suitable for use, caution with decreased renal function
- Children: Suitable for use in children over 2 years old
Interaction
Neomycin Sulphate can intensify respiratory depressant effects of neuromuscular blocking agents
Contraindications
Contraindicated in rosacea, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, primary cutaneous viral infections, and hypersensitivity to the preparation
Side Effects
Prolonged use can result in systemic absorption and features of hypercortisolism. Local atrophic changes, pigmentation changes, and hypertrichosis may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Little information on the effects of Neomycin on pregnancy and lactation. Clobetasol Propionate safety not established in lactating mothers.
Precautions & Warnings
Avoid long-term continuous topical therapy, particularly in infants and children. Ensure the preparation does not enter the eye.
Overdose Effects
Acute overdosage is unlikely, chronic overdosage may lead to hypercortisolism features.
