Indications
- Inhibits ovulation
- Inhibits sperm from entering the uterus by condensing uterine mucus
- Inhibits fertilized egg from being accepted by the uterus
- Reduces the movement of sperm by minimizing fallopian tube movement
Suitable For
- Women aged 15-69 years (except smokers and regular tobacco users)
- Women seeking effective temporary contraception
- Women suffering from anemia due to excessive blood loss during menstruation
- Women with irregular menstruation cycles
- Breastfeeding mothers (if child age is more than 6 months)
Composition
- Each white (hormone) tablet contains Ethinylestradiol USP 0.03 mg & Levonorgestrel USP 0.15 mg
- Each brown color (iron) tablet contains Ferrous Fumarate BP 75 mg
Pharmacology
An effective, temporary and short-term birth control management for women containing Levonorgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol hormones. Combination oral contraceptives primarily suppress ovulation and may include cervical mucus changes that inhibit sperm penetration and endometrial changes that reduce the likelihood of implantation.
Dosage & Administration
- Start taking tablet from the first day of menstruation or within the first 5 days
- Take one tablet at the same time each day, preferably after dinner or before sleeping
- Take one white tablet daily for 3 weeks followed by one brown color tablet daily for 7 days
- If menstruation starts while taking brown color tablet, do not stop the medicine
- If not pregnant, start the next dose after menstruation, using a condom during sexual intercourse for the next 7 days
- If a tablet is forgotten for a day, take it as soon as noticed, and then another tablet for the current day
Interaction
- With Medicine: Drugs or herbal products that induce certain enzymes may decrease effectiveness or increase breakthrough bleeding. Counsel patients to use a back-up or alternative method of contraception when enzyme inducers are used
- With Food and Others: Avoid caffeine, dairy foods, and phytic acid-containing food while taking the drug
Contraindications
Contraindicated in case of known hypersensitivity to any components of the product
Side Effects
- Common: Headache, nausea, mood changes (including depression), vaginal infections, irregular vaginal bleeding, pain and discomfort
- Rare: Liver tumors, jaundice, high blood pressure, gallbladder problems
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy: Contraindicated in pregnancy. Discontinue if pregnancy occurs
- Lactation: Can reduce milk production in breastfeeding females
Precautions & Warnings
- Stop if a thrombotic disorder occurs
- Discontinue if jaundice occurs
- Monitor blood pressure in women with well-controlled hypertension
- Monitor prediabetic and diabetic women
- Evaluate significant change in headaches
- Evaluate irregular bleeding or amenorrhea
