Description
- Doxolar is a bronchodilator used to treat bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary disease with a spastic bronchial component.
Indications
- Bronchial asthma
- Bronchospasm
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Pharmacology
- Novel bronchodilator
- Selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4
- Relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
- Inhibits platelet activating factor (PAF)
- Inhibits leukotriene production
Dosage & Administration
- 200 mg tablet two or three times daily for Elderly
- 400 mg tablet two or three times daily for Adults
- 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily for >12 years of age
- 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily for 6-12 years of age
- Doxophylline SR tablet for daily dose of 400 mg
- Dosage as prescribed by the physician
Interactions
- Should not be administered with other xanthine preparations
- Limit consumption of caffeine-containing beverages and food
- Caution with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs
- Concurrent administration with erythromycin, TAO, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, influenza vaccine, and propanolol may affect hepatic clearance
- Phenytoin, other anticonvulsants, and cigarette smoking may increase clearance

- Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension
- Lactation

- Age-related factors affecting hepatic clearance
- Congestive cardiac decompensation
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Severe liver disease
- Concomitant infections
- Monitoring blood levels for therapeutic range control
- Caution in patients with cardiac disease, hypertension, hypoxemia, hyperthyroidism, corpulmonale, congestive heart failure, liver disease, peptic ulcer, and renal impairment
Overdose Effects
- Severe cardiac arrhythmias
- Tonic-clonic seizure
- Symptomatic treatment of cardiovascular collapse
