- Description: Doxolar is a bronchodilator used to treat bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component. It contains Doxophylline, a novel bronchodilator that selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase 4, relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, and appears to have decreased affinities toward adenosine A1 and A2 receptors.

- Dosage and Administration:
- Elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children (>12 years): 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children (6-12 years): 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily
- Doxophylline SR tablet for required daily dose of 400 mg
- Dosage should be as prescribed by the physician
- Interaction:
- Contraindicated with other xanthine preparations
- Limit consumption of caffeine-containing beverages and food
- Caution with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs
- Concurrent administration may affect hepatic clearance
- Some drugs may reduce hepatic clearance while others may increase it
- Contraindications:
- Known hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension
- Lactation

- Extrasystoles
- Tachypnea
- Hyperglycemia
- Albuminuria
- Severe cardiac arrhythmias (in case of overdose)
- Tonic-clonic seizure (in case of overdose)
- Pregnancy and Lactation:
- Caution during pregnancy with evaluation of risk-benefit ratio
- Contraindicated during lactation
- No sufficient clinical evidence about effects during pregnancy
- Animal tests have shown no interference with pre and postnatal growth
- Precautions and Warnings:
- Factors reducing hepatic clearance may increase plasma levels
- Monitoring of blood levels recommended in certain cases
- Caution in patients with cardiac disease, hypertension, hypoxemia, hyperthyroidism, liver disease, renal impairment
- No risk of addiction or dependence
- Overdose Effects:
- Severe cardiac arrhythmias
- Tonic-clonic seizure
- Symptomatic treatment of cardiovascular collapse in case of overdose
- No specific antidote for overdose
