Indications
- Treatment of Parkinson's disease
Pharmacology
- Irreversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase
- Increases extracellular levels of dopamine
- Beneficial effects in models of dopaminergic motor dysfunction
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose of 1 mg orally once daily
- Initial dose of 0.5 mg once daily for patients taking levodopa
- Pediatric use not established
- Geriatric use safety profile similar to nongeriatric patients
Contraindications
- Contraindicated with meperidine, tramadol, methadone, propoxyphene, MAO inhibitors
- Risk of serotonin syndrome
