Indications

  • Treatment of Hypertension

Pharmacology

  • Bisoprolol Fumarate and Hydrochlorothiazide used for hypertension
  • Antihypertensive effects of agents are additive

Dosage & Administration

  • Effective in once-daily doses of 2.5 to 40 mg for Bisoprolol
  • Effective in doses of 12.5 to 50 mg for Hydrochlorothiazide
  • Antihypertensive effects increased with increasing doses of either component

Interaction

  • Potentiate the action of other antihypertensive agents
  • Should not be combined with other beta-blocking agents
  • Caution with myocardial depressants or inhibitors of AV conduction

Contraindications

  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Overt cardiac failure
  • Second or third degree AV block
  • Marked sinus bradycardia
  • Anuria
  • Hypersensitivity to either component of the product or to other sulfonamide-derived drugs

  • Diarrhea
  • Peripheral ischemia

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category C
  • Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies the risk to the fetus
  • Not studied in nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

  • Hyperuricemia or acute gout may be precipitated
  • Warning signs of fluid and electrolyte imbalances
  • Carefully observe patients if withdrawal of therapy is planned

Overdose Effects

  • Overdose may cause bradycardia and hypotension
  • Lethargy, delirium, coma, convulsions may occur with severe overdoses
  • Acute loss of fluid and electrolytes
