Gastrocon-A (500 mg+100 mg)/5 ml (Oral Suspension)

Indications

• Treatment of symptoms resulting from the reflux of acid, bile and pepsin into the esophagus
• Relief of acid regurgitation, heartburn, indigestion
• Suitable after gastric surgery, hiatus hernia, during pregnancy, reflux esophagitis
• Can also treat laryngopharyngeal reflux symptoms
• Use during concomitant treatment with or following the withdrawal of acid suppressing therapy

Pharmacology

• Combination of Sodium Alginate and Potassium Bicarbonate
• Sodium Alginate reacts with stomach acid to form a gel
• Potassium Bicarbonate reacts with stomach acid to form carbon dioxide bubbles
• The gel raft prevents acid from flowing back into the esophagus
• The raft lasts for up to 4 hours in the stomach

Dosage & Administration

• Adult dose: 1-2 tablets 3-4 times daily, after meals and before bedtime
• Children over 12 years dose: 1-2 tablets 3-4 times daily
• Children 6-12 years dose: ½-1 tablet 3-4 times daily
• Adults and children 12 years and above dose: 5-10 ml suspension 3-4 times daily

Interaction

• Consider a 2-hour interval between intake and administration of other medicinal products

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Sodium Alginate and Potassium Bicarbonate

Side Effects

• May cause nausea, constipation, diarrhea, or headache
• Consult a physician in case of excessive dosage or swelling sensation

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if clinically needed
• No known effect on breast-fed infants

Precautions & Warnings

• Prescribed with caution in patients with renal impairment and congestive cardiac failure
• Care needed in treating patients with hypercalcemia and nephrocalcinosis

Overdose Effects

• Overdosage is a rare case, consult a registered physician in case of overdose
