Indications

• Fast & effective relief of Chest congestion
• Cough
• Sore throat

Pharmacology

• Guaifenesin is an expectorant
• Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is a cough suppressant
• Menthol has local anesthetic and counterirritant qualities

Dosage & Administration

• Adult Use Only (12 years and over): 2 teaspoonful syrup (10 ml) every 6 hours
• Maximum 8 teaspoonful syrup (40 ml)/day

Interaction

• Possible reactions with acetaminophen / hydrocodone
• Diphenhydramine
• Escitalopram
• Acetaminophen / codeine
• Alprazolam
• Ondansetron

Contraindications

• Not to be taken with a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)
• Not recommended for use within two weeks after stopping the MAOI drug

Side Effects

• Dizziness
• Drowsiness
• Gastrointestinal disturbance
• Feeling nervous, restless, anxious, or irritable

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA
• Recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk

Precautions & Warnings

• Consult a doctor before using if you have asthma, chronic lung disease
• Shortness of breath
• Persistent/chronic cough
• Taking a drug for depression

Overdose Effects

• Overdosage with guaifenesin is unlikely to produce toxic effects
• Treatment aimed at reducing further absorption of the drug
• Gastric emptying recommended in severe cases of overdosage with Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide
• Menthol can be harmful in large amounts
