Dosage & Administration
- Dosage for adults and children aged 12 and over
- Initial doses for various conditions such as nausea, vomiting, motion sickness, radiation sickness, vertigo, and prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with emergency contraceptive pill (ECP)
- Safety and efficacy not established for use in children under 12 years old
Interaction
- Potentiation of CNS depressant effects by Ethanol
- Potentiation of CNS depressant effects by other CNS depressant agents
- Potentiation of anticholinergic effects by other anticholinergics
- Increase in the absorption of digoxin by decreasing gastrointestinal motility
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Meclizine Hydrochloride
- Hypersensitivity to Pyridoxine Hydrochloride
Side Effects
- Reported side effects: drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Suggested lowest risk of teratogenicity
- Drug of first choice for treating nausea and vomiting during pregnancy
- Safety not established for use in nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Impairment of ability to perform hazardous activities
- Avoidance of alcoholic beverages
- Use with caution in patients with asthma
- Use with caution in patients with glaucoma
- Use with caution in patients with enlargement of the prostate gland
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms: extreme excitability, seizures, drowsiness, hallucinations
- Treatment: appropriate supportive and symptomatic treatment, consider dialysis
