Indications

Composition

  • Ethinylestradiol USP 0.03 mg
  • Levonorgestrel USP 0.15 mg
  • Ferrous Fumarate BP 75 mg

Pharmacology

  • Contains Levonorgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol
  • 28 tablets in a strip (21 hormone, 7 iron)
  • Suppresses ovulation
  • Changes in cervical mucus inhibiting sperm penetration
  • Endometrial changes reducing likelihood of implantation

Dosage & Administration

  • Start from first day of menstruation
  • Take one tablet daily at the same time
  • Take white tablet for 3 weeks, brown tablet for 7 days
  • Start dose with white tablet, then brown tablet
  • Use condom for 7 days if starting after menstruation

Interaction

  • Enzyme inducers may decrease effectiveness
  • Avoid caffeine and dairy foods while taking the drug

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to any components

Side Effects

  • Common: Headache, nausea, mood changes, vaginal infections
  • Irregular vaginal bleeding, pain, discomfort
  • Rare: liver tumors, jaundice, high blood pressure, gallbladder problem

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Contraindicated in pregnancy
  • Discontinue if pregnancy occurs
  • Can reduce milk production in breastfeeding females

Precautions & Warnings

  • Thrombotic disorder and vascular problems
  • Discontinue in case of jaundice or hypertension
  • Monitor prediabetic and diabetic women
  • Evaluate significant change in headaches
  • Evaluate irregular bleeding or amenorrhea

Use in Special Populations

  • Safety and efficacy established in women of reproductive age
  • Efficacy expected to be the same in post-pubertal adolescents
  • Not indicated for use before menarche

Overdose Effects

  • No reports of serious illness effects from overdose
  • May cause withdrawal bleeding and nausea
