Virupos 3% (Ophthalmic Ointment)

Indications

• Treatment of Herpes simplex keratitis

Pharmacology

• Antiviral agent highly active against Herpes simplex and Varicella zoster viruses
• Low toxicity to mammalian cells
• Phosphorylates to active compound after entry into herpes infected cell
• Acts as an inhibitor of herpes specifi­ed DNA polymerase

Dosage & Administration

• 10 mm ribbon of ointment placed inside the lower conjunctival sac five times a day
• Treatment should continue for at least 3 days after healing

Interaction

• No clinically significant interactions identified

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Acyclovir or Valacyclovir

Side Effects

• Superficial punctate keratopathy
• Transient mild stinging of the eye
• Conjunctivitis
• Blepharitis

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy category B
• No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women
• Excretion in breast milk is unknown

Precautions & Warnings

• Recommended dosage, frequency of applications, and length of treatment should not be exceeded

Overdose Effects

• No adverse effects expected if entire contents of the tube are ingested orally

• Keep away from light
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not touch the tip of the tube
• Do not use the medicine of tube after one month of opening
