Description

  • Linezolid is indicated for the treatment of nosocomial pneumonia, community-acquired pneumonia, complicated skin and skin structure infection, uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections. It is a synthetic antibacterial agent with in vitro activity against Gram-positive aerobic bacteria, some Gram-positive anaerobic bacteria, and certain Gram-negative bacteria. Linezolid tablets should be taken orally with or without food, and the recommended daily dosage varies depending on the type of infection. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Linezolid or any of the other product components.

  • Complete blood counts should be monitored weekly
  • Prompt ophthalmic evaluation if visual impairment symptoms occur
  • Not approved for the treatment of catheter-related bloodstream infections
  • Monitor for potential increases in blood pressure
  • Immediate medical evaluation needed for certain symptoms

Interaction

  • Drug Interaction with Medication:
    • Reversible, nonselective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase
    • Potential for interaction with adrenergic and serotonergic agents
  • Drug Interaction with Food:
    • Advice patients to avoid large quantities of foods or beverages with high tyramine content while taking Linezolid

Contraindications

Overdose Effects

Reconstitution

  • Oral Suspension:
    • Shake the bottle to loosen powder
    • Reconstitute with boiled and cooled water
    • Shake well after each addition until all the powder is in suspension
    • Keep the bottle tightly closed
    • Use within 21 days after constitution
  • Intravenous Administration:
    • Intravenous infusion over a period of 30 to 120 minutes
    • Store at room temperature and protect from freezing
  • Storage Conditions:
    • Store at room temperature (15°C-30°C)
