Dosage
Linagliptin 5 mg once daily
Indications
- Improves glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Can be used as monotherapy or combination therapy with metformin or sulphonylurea
Pharmacology
Inhibitor of DPP-4 enzyme, increases concentrations of active incretin hormones
Mechanism of Action
- Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells
- Decreases glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells
Interaction
Weak competitive and moderate mechanism-based inhibitor of CYP3A4
