Pharmacology
- Irreversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase
- MAO-B inhibitory activity
- Increase in extracellular levels of dopamine
- Beneficial effects in models of dopaminergic motor dysfunction
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose: 1 mg orally once daily
- Initial dose: 1 mg daily for patients taking levodopa
- Pediatric use: Safety & effectiveness not established
- Geriatric use: No significant safety profile differences
Contraindications
- Contraindicated for use with meperidine, tramadol, methadone, propoxyphene
- Contraindicated with MAO inhibitors (MAOIs) including other selective MAO-B inhibitors

Precautions & Warnings
- Exacerbation of hypertension may occur
- Serotonin syndrome risk
- Caution with concomitant use of ciprofloxacin or other CYP1A2 inhibitors
- Hepatic impairment precautions
- Concomitant use of Rasagil and fluoxetine or fluvoxamine should be avoided
- Concomitant use of Rasagil and dextromethorphan or sympathomimetics not recommended
- Possible association with Parkinson's disease and a higher risk of skin cancer
- Evaluation of suspicious skin lesions by a specialist
