Indications

Upper Respiratory Tract Infections, Lower Respiratory Tract Infections, Urinary Tract Infections

Pharmacology

Bactericidal, Interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis, Stable in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme

Dosage & Administration

Usual course of treatment is 7 days, Recommended adult dosage: 200-400 mg daily, Children dosage: 8 mg/kg/day

Interaction

Increases in prothrombin times observed in a few patients

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics

  • Thrombocytopenia
  • Genital pruritis
  • Vaginitis

Pregnancy & Lactation

No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women, Caution in lactating women

Precautions & Warnings

Caution in penicillin-sensitive patients, Allergic reactions may require discontinuation

Gastric Lavage may be indicated, No specific antidote exists
