Pharmacology
- Preparation of Calcium Carbonate and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)
- Calcium necessary for bone formation and maintenance
- Vitamin D3 aids in absorption and reabsorption of Calcium
- Stimulates bone formation
- Aids in bone growth and prevention of osteoporosis & bone fracture
Dosage and Administration
- Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 200 IU Tablet: 2 tablets daily or 1 tablet twice daily
- Calcium 500 mg and Vitamin D3 400 IU Tablet: 1 tablet twice daily
- Best taken with or just after a meal for improved absorption
Interactions
- Possible interaction with calcium, aluminium or magnesium containing antacids
- Interaction with other calcium supplements, calcitriol & other vitamin D3 supplements
- Interacts with digoxin, tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or oxytetracycline
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in hypercalcaemia
- Contraindicated in hyperthyroidism
- Contraindicated in renal calculi & nephrolithiasis
- Contraindicated in Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Side Effects
- Generally well tolerated
- Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, dry mouth, increased thirst, increased urination
- Constipation may occur
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Should be used as directed by physician during pregnancy or while breastfeeding
