Indications
- Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria
- Improves health-related quality of life and work/activity productivity
Pharmacology
- H1 histamine receptor mediating hypersensitivity
- Degranulation of mast cells and basophils
- Release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators
- Fexofenadine considered an "inverse agonist" of the H1 receptor
- Selective affinity for H1 receptors
- No evidence of antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, anticholinergic, sedative, or adrenergic blocking activity
- Does not cross the blood-brain barrier
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dosage: 60 mg twice daily, 120 mg once daily, or 180 mg once daily
- Child dosage: varies based on age and renal function

Interaction
- No hepatic biotransformation
- Increased fexofenadine level with erythromycin or ketoconazole
- No interaction with omeprazole
- Reduction in bioavailability with aluminium and magnesium hydroxide
