Description
- Spasmolytic flavone derivative
- Relaxes smooth muscle in the urinary tract
- Competitive muscarinic receptor antagonist
- Treatment of overactive bladder
- Symptoms of urge urinary incontinence
- Urinary frequency
Pharmacology
- Direct antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors
- Reduces tonus of smooth muscle in the bladder
- Reduces required voids
- Reduces urge incontinence episodes
- Improves retention
- Facilitates increased volume per void
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 100-200 mg 3 times a day
- Dose may be reduced with improvement of symptoms
- Pediatric use not established below 12 years
Contraindications
- Obstructive conditions
- Pyloric or duodenal obstruction
- Obstructive uropathies of the lower urinary tract
- Gastrointestinal hemorrhage
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, dry mouth
- CNS: Vertigo, headache, drowsiness
- Hematologic: Reversible leukopenia
- Cardiovascular: Tachycardia, palpitation
- Allergic: Urticaria, eosinophilia
- Ophthalmic: Increased ocular tension, blurred vision
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Unknown excretion in human milk
- Caution in nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Cautious use in patients with suspected glaucoma
