Indications
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Degenerative joint diseases
- Musculoskeletal and joint disorders
- Pain, dental pain, headache
- Primary dysmenorrhea
Pharmacology
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with analgesic and antipyretic actions; inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, stabilizes lysosomal membranes, and exhibits antibradykinin activity
Dosage
- Anti-inflammatory dosage: Starting dose 150 to 300 mg/day in 3 divided doses
- Pain management dosage: 25 to 50 mg every 6 to 8 hours, not to exceed 300 mg/day
Administration
Oral forms to be taken with fluids, preferably with food
Interactions
- Increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding with other NSAIDs and high dose salicylates
- Increased risk of bleeding with anticoagulants
- Various drug associations requiring precautions for use
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Severe heart failure
- Peptic ulcer/hemorrhage history
- Severe hepatic or renal insufficiency
- Third trimester of pregnancy
- Rectitis or proctorrhagia history

Use with care in patients with gastrointestinal disease, heart failure, hypertension, or mild to moderate congestive heart failure; monitor renal function, liver function, and potassium levels; caution in infectious disease presence; monitor for visual disturbances
Use in Special Populations
- Elderly: Reduce initial dosage
- Hepatic impairment: Monitor carefully
- Renal impairment: Reduce initial dosage
Overdose Effects
Reported cases limited to lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and epigastric pain; no specific antidotes; recommended symptomatic and supportive treatment
