Indications

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Degenerative joint diseases
  • Musculoskeletal and joint disorders
  • Pain, dental pain, headache
  • Primary dysmenorrhea

Pharmacology

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug with analgesic and antipyretic actions; inhibits prostaglandin synthesis, stabilizes lysosomal membranes, and exhibits antibradykinin activity

Dosage

  • Anti-inflammatory dosage: Starting dose 150 to 300 mg/day in 3 divided doses
  • Pain management dosage: 25 to 50 mg every 6 to 8 hours, not to exceed 300 mg/day

Administration

Oral forms to be taken with fluids, preferably with food

Interactions

  • Increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding with other NSAIDs and high dose salicylates
  • Increased risk of bleeding with anticoagulants
  • Various drug associations requiring precautions for use

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Severe heart failure
  • Peptic ulcer/hemorrhage history
  • Severe hepatic or renal insufficiency
  • Third trimester of pregnancy
  • Rectitis or proctorrhagia history

Use in Special Populations

  • Elderly: Reduce initial dosage
  • Hepatic impairment: Monitor carefully
  • Renal impairment: Reduce initial dosage

Overdose Effects

Reported cases limited to lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and epigastric pain; no specific antidotes; recommended symptomatic and supportive treatment
