Indications
- spasticity resulting from multiple sclerosis
- flexor spasms and concomitant pain
- skeletal muscle spasm resulting from rheumatic disorders
- spinal cord injuries and other spinal cord diseases
- cerebrovascular accidents or neoplastic or degenerative brain disease
Pharmacology
- inhibits both monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes
- stimulates the GABA receptors
- inhibits the release of glutamate and aspartate
- exerts an antinociceptive effect
Dosage & Administration
- 5 mg 3 times daily for adults & children over 10 years
- gradually increased; max. 100 mg daily
- lower doses for children under 10 years
- dosage increase based on age
Interaction
- increased sedation with agents acting on the central nervous system
- risk of respiratory depression
- increased fall in blood pressure with antihypertensives
- potentiation of pharmacological effects with tricyclic antidepressants
- reports of mental confusion, hallucinations, headaches in patients with Parkinson's disease receiving treatment with levodopa and carbidopa
- increased CNS depressant effects with MAO inhibitors
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to any component of this product

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy category B3
- safe use not established during pregnancy
- excreted in breast milk
- quantities in breast milk expected to have no undesirable effects
Precautions & Warnings
- lower doses for patients with impaired renal function
- closely monitor patients with psychotic disorders, schizophrenia, depressive or manic disorders
- seizures reported after cessation of therapy or with overdose
- use with caution in patients with peptic ulcers, cerebrovascular diseases, or hepatic, renal or respiratory failure
- careful monitoring of respiratory and cardiovascular function essential
- improvement in neurogenic disturbances affecting emptying of the bladder
- poor tolerance in stroke patients
Overdose Effects
- gastric lavage in case of severe overdose
