Indications

Description
Alia is an oral Gestagen that has a potent pregnancy-maintaining action without producing hormonal side-effects, stimulates the endocrine function of the trophoblast, stimulates the placenta to produce more progesterone, and brings abnormally low levels of placental hormones and specific enzymes to normal during treatment.
Mechanism of Action
- Weak progestational effect on the human endometrium
- Stimulates synthesis of progesterone in the human placenta
- Increases production of specific placental enzymes
- Stimulates placental function
- Suppresses intensity of spontaneous uterine contractions
- Has no estrogenic or androgenic properties
- No adverse effects on adrenal function
Dosage & Administration
1 tablet three times a day for Intra Uterine Growth Retardation, 1 tablet three times daily for Threatened abortion, 1-2 tablets daily for Habitual abortion, and individualized dosage for Threatened premature delivery. Missed dose should be taken as soon as remembered.
Contraindications
- Breast Cancer or history of problems with the breasts
- Severe liver disease
- Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
- Toxaemia of Pregnancy
- Crisis Seizures, Migraines
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal complaints such as vomiting, nausea, and sometimes epigastric discomfort
Pregnancy & Lactation
Specifically designed to be taken during pregnancy and should be discontinued after delivery as it may affect a nursing infant
Precautions & Warnings
- Cautious use in patients with heart disease, congestive heart failure, seizures, epilepsy, renal dysfunction, and breathing diseases
- Breast-feeding
Use in Special Populations
Should not be used for children younger than 16 years old
Overdose Effects
Symptoms of overdose may include unusual drowsiness, rapid pulse, fainting, unusual muscle movement or rigidity of the face, neck, or limbs, seizures, and loss of consciousness
