Indications
- Bronchial asthma
- Bronchospasm
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Pulmonary disease with spastic bronchial component
Pharmacology
- Novel bronchodilator
- Inhibits phosphodiesterase 4
- Relaxes bronchial smooth muscle
- Selective inhibition of adenosine A1 and A2 receptors
- Inhibits platelet activating factor (PAF)
- Inhibition of leukotriene production
Dosage & Administration
- Elderly dosage: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Adults dosage: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children dosage over 12 years of age: 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily
- Children dosage 6-12 years of age: 6-9 mg/kg body weight two times daily
- Doxophylline SR tablet for a required daily dose of 400 mg
Interaction
- Avoid administration with other xanthine preparations
- Limit consumption of caffeine-containing beverages and food
- Exercise caution with ephedrine or other sympathomimetic drugs
- Concurrent administration with erythromycin, TAO, lincomycin, clindamycin, allopurinol, cimetidine, influenza vaccine, propanolol
- Increase in dosage with phenytoin, other anticonvulsants, and cigarette smoking

- Hypersensitivity to the drug or other xanthine derivatives
- Acute myocardial infarction
- Hypotension
- Lactation
