Indications

Treatment of hypertension
Reducing risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy

Pharmacology

Blocks vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II
Thiazide diuretic affecting renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption

Dosage

Usual starting dose of 50/12.5 is one tablet once daily
Antihypertensive effect attained within three weeks after initiation of therapy

Administration

May be administered with other antihypertensive agents
May be administered with or without food

Interaction

No significant drug-drug pharmacokinetic interactions found
Potentiation with alcohol, barbiturates, or narcotics when administered concurrently with Thiazide diuretics

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the product
Anuria or hypersensitivity to other sulfonamide-derived drugs

Side Effects

Symptomatic hypotension including dizziness
Occasional hyperkalemia
Angioedema
Gastro-intestinal disturbances
Headache
Pruritus

Pregnancy & Lactation

Avoided in pregnancy unless essential
Not recommended in breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings

Periodic determination of serum electrolytes
Hypokalemia may rarely develop
Impaired renal function
Symptomatic hypotension
