Indications
- Treatment of endometriosis
- Reduces effects of estrogen on endometrium and breast
- Reduces pelvic pain in women with endometriosis
Pharmacology
- Acts as agonist at progesterone receptor
- Promotes antiproliferative effects on endometrial tissue
- Reduces level of endogenous production of oestradiol
- Antagonist at androgen receptors
Dosage & Administration
- 2 mg daily without any break
- Tablet-taking can be started on any day of the menstrual cycle
- Continuous administration without regard to vaginal bleeding
- Instructions for missed tablets or vomiting/diarrhea
Interaction
- Metabolized mainly by cytochrome P450 3A4 system
- CYP3A4 inhibitors may affect progestogen drug metabolism
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to dienogest or excipients
- Active venous thromboembolic disorder
- Arterial and cardiovascular disease
- Diabetes mellitus with vascular involvement
- Severe hepatic disease
- Liver tumors
- Sex hormone-dependent malignancies
- Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
