Indications
- treatment of hypertension
- reduce risk of stroke in patients with hypertension and left ventricular hypertrophy
Pharmacology
- angiotensin II vasoconstrictor
- aldosterone-secreting effects
- renal tubular mechanisms of electrolyte reabsorption
- increased excretion of Sodium and Chloride
- plasma volume reduction
- increased plasma renin activity
- increased Aldosterone secretion
- decreased serum Potassium
- angiotensin II receptor antagonist
Dosage
- usual starting dose of 50/12.5
- dosage may be increased to 100/25 once daily
- maximum dose of 100/25 once daily
- antihypertensive effect attained within three weeks
- no initial dosage adjustment for elderly patients
- dosage adjustment for severe hypertension
Administration
- may be administered with other antihypertensive agents
- may be administered with or without food

- no significant drug-drug pharmacokinetic interactions
- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug interaction
