Pharmacology

  • Active form: Calcitriol
  • Half-life: 50 days
  • Absorption in small intestine
  • Metabolized to 25-hydroxy Vitamin D3 (Calcidiol)
  • Hydroxylation in the kidney to 1,25-dihydroxy Vitamin D3 (Calcitriol)
  • Storage in tissues such as fat and muscle
  • Elimination via feces and urine

Dosage & Administration

  • For adults: 40000 IU once weekly for 7 weeks for Vitamin D3 deficiency
  • For children (12-18 years): 20000 IU once every 2 weeks for 6 weeks for Vitamin D3 deficiency
  • Various dosage forms: capsules, film-coated tablets, oroflash/chewable tablets, syrup, injection
  • Different doses for different patient groups
