Indications

  • Adjuvant treatment for chronic bronchopulmonary diseases
  • Adjuvant treatment for acute bronchopulmonary diseases
  • Reduces viscosity of mucoid or mucopurulent secretions

Pharmacology

  • Mucolytic agent
  • Reduces viscosity of secretions by splitting disulphide bonds in mucoproteins
  • Antisecretory effect
  • Anti-oxidant properties
  • Reacts with free radicals
  • Precursor to glutathione

Dosage & Administration

  • Effervescent tablet for adults and children above 6 years
  • Effervescent granules for adults, children above 6 years, and children 2-6 years
  • Nebuliser solution for adults and children
  • Dilution guidelines for Nebuliser solution
  • Diagnostic bronchograms dosage
  • Nebulisation tent or croupette administration
  • Direct instillation dosage

Interaction

  • Reduces efficacy of certain antibiotics
  • Increases level of amoxicillin in tissues
  • Increases inhibitory effect of thrombocyte aggregation and vasodilation by nitroglycerine

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Acetylcysteine
  • Contraindicated in patients suffering from phenylketonuria

  • Sulphureous odor characteristic
  • Preferable not to mix with other drugs
