Indications
- Rapid Anefer supply
- Patients intolerant to oral Anefer therapy
- In active inflammatory bowel disease
- Chronic kidney disease patients
- Surgical procedures
- Postpartum patients
Pharmacology
- Iron Sucrose is haematinic
- Contains Polynuclear Iron (III) Hydroxide in Sucrose
- Dissociates into Iron and Sucrose
- Iron transferred to liver and bone marrow
- Iron binds to plasma transferrin
Dosage
- 5-10 ml Iron Sucrose Injection once to three times a week for adults and elderly
- 0.15 ml Iron Sucrose Injection per kg body weight for children
Administration
- Intravenous injection
- Infusion with dilution of 1 ml Iron Sucrose Injection in 20 ml 0.9% w/v Sodium Chloride
- Test dose before therapeutic dose
Interaction
- Not studied with other drugs
- Should not be administered concomitantly with oral iron preparations
Contraindications
- Evidence of Iron overload
- Known hypersensitivity to Iron Sucrose or its components
- Anaemia not caused by Iron deficiency
- History of allergic disorders, liver disease, infections
