Indications

Description

  • Organic nitrate

Pharmacology

  • Relaxation of vascular smooth muscle
  • Vasodilator effect on arteries and veins
  • Reduces left ventricular enddiastolic pressure
  • Reduces arterial pressure

Dosage

  • Administer 1-2 sprays at onset of attack
  • Maximum 3 sprays within 15 minutes
  • Prophylactic use 5-10 minutes prior to activities
  • Prompt medical attention if chest pain persists

Administration

  • Carry at all times
  • Not for routine use
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages
  • Avoid sildenafil, vardenafil, or tadalafil
  • Keep away from children
  • Sit down during angina attack
  • Do not shake the container
  • Hold container upright
  • Do not swallow immediately after administering
  • No water intake for 5-10 minutes after administration
  • Use second administration if needed

Interaction

  • Severe hypotension with alcohol
  • Enhanced bioavailability of dihydroergotamine with oral Nitromint
  • Risk of orthostatic hypotension with certain medications

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to nitrates or constituents of formulation
  • Hypotension, hypovolaemia, severe anaemia
  • Cerebral haemorrhage and brain trauma
  • Mitral stenosis and angina due to hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy
  • Concomitant use with phosphodiesterase inhibitors

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Pregnancy Category C

Precautions & Warnings

  • Monitor hemodynamics and clinical status during early acute myocardial infarction
  • Caution in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
  • Use with caution in hypothyroidism, malnutrition, or hypothermia

Use in Special Populations

  • Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients

Overdose Effects

  • Severe hypotension
  • Throbbing headache
  • Vertigo
  • Palpitation
  • Visual disturbance
  • Flushing and perspiring skin
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Syncope
  • Methemoglobinemia
  • Treatment includes recumbent position, oxygen, and methylene blue if necessary
