Indications

  • Adjunct to diet and exercise for type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Improves glycemic control in adults with diabetes
  • Appropriate for treatment with Linagliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride

Pharmacology

  • Inhibitor of DPP-4 enzyme
  • Increases concentration of active incretin hormones
  • Stimulates insulin release in a glucose-dependent manner
  • Decreases glucagon secretion
  • Lowers basal and postprandial plasma glucose
  • Improves insulin sensitivity
  • Decreases hepatic glucose production
  • Improves peripheral glucose uptake and utilization

Dosage & Administration

  • Maximum recommended dose of 2.5 mg Linagliptin and 1000 mg Metformin Hydrochloride twice daily with meals
  • Dose escalation should be gradual to reduce gastrointestinal side effects
  • Different dosage for immediate and extended release tablets
  • Individualized dosing based on effectiveness and tolerability

Interaction
