Indications
- Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Improves glycaemic control in adults
- May be used as monotherapy
- May be used in combination therapy with metformin and sulphonylurea
Pharmacology
- Inhibitor of DPP-4 enzyme
- Increases active incretin hormones
- Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells
- Decreases glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose: Linagliptin 5 mg once daily
- Maintenance dose of metformin if used in combination
- Consider lower dose of sulphonylurea when used in combination
Interaction
- Weak competitive and a weak to moderate mechanism-based inhibitor of CYP isozyme CYP3A4
- Low risk for clinically meaningful interactions with other medicinal products
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance or excipients
