Indications

Pharmacology

  • Immediate release Esomeprazole Magnesium layer
  • Enteric-coated Naproxen core
  • Prostaglandin synthesis inhibition
  • Suppression of gastric acid secretion

Dosage

  • Lowest effective dose
  • Adult dosage: 375 mg naproxen/20 mg esomeprazole, or 500 mg naproxen/20 mg esomeprazole twice daily
  • Adolescent dosage based on weight

Administration

  • Tablet should not be split, chewed, crushed, or dissolved
  • To be taken at least 30 minutes before meals

Interaction

  • Reduced antihypertensive effect of ACE inhibitors, diuretics, and beta-blockers with NSAIDs
  • Increased risk of bleeding complication with warfarin
  • Interference with drug absorption by Esomeprazole
  • Food effect on absorption of Naproxen & Esomeprazole

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to tablet components
  • History of allergic reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs
  • Use during peri-operative period of coronary artery bypass graft surgery

Side Effects

  • Gastrointestinal side effects reduction
  • Risks of arterial thrombotic events
  • Adverse events such as oedema, hypertension, and cardiac failure
  • Commonly observed gastrointestinal adverse events

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Use not recommended during third trimester of pregnancy
